Taxis

Taxi companies are famous for trying to rip off tourists in Hungary and sadly, they often succeed in it. By adapting following information your vacation or stay in Hungary will be cheaper.

1. Taxis have word "taxi" written on them AND YELLOW licence plates. Sign on the top does not mean that its a real taxi in question.

2. They need to use a faremeter which can give you a receipt. Pay attention that you can see the faremeter all the time so there isn't for example a receipt lying on top of that already.

3. Depending on the level of satisfaction, the custom is to give 10% tip to the driver

4. Total charge consists of:
- basic charge of max 300HUF/day and 420HUF/night
- per kilometer charge based on travelled distance, max 240HUF/km/day and 336HUF/km/night
- possible waiting charge

5. Transfer from/to airport shouldn't be more than 4-5,000HUF

6. Taxis are cheaper if you call them. Many if not all of the companies have English-speaking operator.

7. If you don't know the company or just get your first taxi in Hungary, AGREE ON THE PRICE BEFORE SITTING IN!
