Public transportation

Budapest's network of public transport includes buses, trolleybuses, trams, metros and above-ground suburban trains (HÈV).

* Buses, trams and trolleybuses run daily from 4.30am until 11pm
* For some lines, there are nightbuses

* All three metro lines run through and connect at station of Deák Ferenc tér. Fourth line is under construction. Time inverval is between 2-15 minutes depending on time of day.

* The HÉV runs to and from Csepel Island and Ráckeve in the south, Szentendre in the north and Gödöllö in the east.

Tickets must be purchased in advance. You can buy those at underground stations, kiosks and from any vending machines located usually near tram and metro stops.
* One ticket covers ONLY ONE trip. When you change line, you have to validate another.
* In underground tickets must be validated before entering the escalators.
* Also special tickets can be purchased (tourist, day, student, monthly) which allow unlimited changes of lines.
* Ticket inspectors may be in uniform or plain-clothed but they always wear blue armband (they might put it on only when asking to see your ticket) and photographic identification badge.

There are also three main railway stations in Budapest where you can easily travel all around Hungary and to other countries as well. These are:

* Keleti pályaudvar (East station), VIII district, Baross tér
* Nyugati pályaudvar (West Station), VI district, Nyugati tér
* Déli pályaudvar (South Station), I district, Krisztina krt. 37/A
